A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing Colleen's bridal session at the gorgeous Hotel Monaco. Stay tuned for another post with photos of Colleen with her husband in their mini "We Did" session.

You may remember Jess and Pontus from their Conservatory of Flowers wedding. Instead of an engagement session, they opted for a "We Did" session about a month a few months after their wedding. What's great about a "We Did" session is that you get to wear your wedding dress again!
It was great spending time with Jess and Pontus again and getting to know them better. We had such a great time chatting about architecture, art, design, and life in general! We headed out to the Golden Gate Bridge and the Marin Headlands for lots of variety and gritty textures.

Ray and I are so proud that we recently won an award from the WPJA in their 2008 Q4 Contest in the "Emotion" category. The photo to the left is from Sara and Tony's wedding at the Mountain Terrace. I think we did a great job capturing Tony's emotion and his feeling of triumph after his vows!
WPJA (Wedding Photojournalists Association) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets its members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach - a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography. You have to meet the WPJA's strict criteria to join the WPJA, we are very proud to be members!
We have the most down-to-earth fun clients. Joyce and James are no exception. The first thing that I noticed about Joyce is that she has the best sense of humor and loves to laugh -- a lot, just like me. Heehee.
Joyce and James were married under a gorgeous old oak tree at Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton. We started off at the Rose Hotel for Joyce's getting ready shots. The surprise lion dance performance was a major hit, and all of the guests had an amazing time. We were super busy snapping shots of everyone having a great time. Instead of the standard guest book, the guests signed a special wedding themed snowboard!

I met Veronica and Sergio last year when they stopped by our office. I knew they were a super sweet couple -- very warm and friendly people, and that Ray and I would have an amazing time documenting their special day. It's great to work with a couple that is relaxed and enjoying their wedding day so much!
Veronica and Sergio had an epic San Francisco destination wedding which included their closest friends and family. They live down in Orange County, and wanted to travel here to San Francisco to make their wedding very special. The day began with a beautiful Catholic ceremony in both Spanish and English, at the gorgeous St. Boniface Church. Following the ceremony, Veronica and Sergio arranged for a surprise trolley ride for all of the wedding guests with stops at Golden Gate Park and Fort Point. The reception was an incredibly fun bay cruise, which was a first for Ray and I. We managed to find our sea legs and shoot the epic dancing that ended a wonderful day!

You could tell that Halley couldn't wait to be married to Jessamine. Halley had to be one of the most excited grooms we've ever seen. And who wouldn't want to be married to the gorgeous and incredibly smart Jessamine?
Jessamine and Halley were married a few weeks ago near the Dahlia Garden in Golden Gate Park. They both have incredibly friendly and warm families. It was a true joy to see both families come together to celebrate this new marriage. Following their wedding, Jess and Halley had a beautiful cocktail reception in the park, followed by a dinner in the private room at the always amazing Absinthe in Hayes Valley.
Jess' entire family stayed in a flat in the Haight--that's such a great idea to have your family staying together in one spot. I was able to photograph Jess' family helping her to get ready, and caught a few nice moments with her parents and her grandmother.

Ray and I took Jess and Halley to Stow Lake, the Chinese Pagoda, Huntington Falls (all within GG Park), and finally over to Fort Point for a relaxed and elegant portrait session.

Melody and Mel are two of the most energetic and fun people that I've met in quite some time. They're also our first gamer couple. Can you believe that they met while playing Dance Dance Revolution? How cool is that!
Melody and Mel are getting married in Maui early next year, and we decided to get together for their engagement at a time when we thought SF would be fog free. First we headed over to Clarion Alley in our old hood for some mural goodness. Since Melody and Mel are gamers, we thought it would be fun to check out some old school games at the Musee Mecanique.

Our 2008 wedding season is in full swing! A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of shooting an engagement session for Misono and Dan who are getting married in Virginia later this year. Dan is a film student, and Misono is a web designer and it's always fun to work with such talented and creative people.
Misono asked us to photograph them when the cherry blossom trees were blooming in Golden Gate Park, and we had a narrow window of time to do this since the bloom only lasts for about two weeks. We managed to get some fantastic shots in the Japanese Tea Garden despite the throngs of tourists. Baker Beach was gorgeous as usual!
Take a look at more photos from Misono and Dan's engagement session slideshow.

I'm slowing catching up with our photos projects! A few months ago, Ray and I had a Trash the Dress session with Alexa. I posted a few of the more glamorous photos here, but now I wanted to share the really wonderful moments at Lake Temescal in Oakland. Alexa was once a member of her swim team, and loves being in the water. Of course getting in a lake in a wedding dress isn't that easy! In order to get these shots, I had to go into the lake myself, all the way to my behind. But I never mind getting dirty when it means grabbing gorgeous photos.
Ray and I love edgy photo shoots like this, so get in touch with us if you're interested in a Trash the Dress session, or any alternative style shoot. :)

A few months ago, we had a great portrait session with Catlin and Gio at Stow Lake, the De Young Museum, and Fort Point. Although they're not engaged, Catlin wanted a nice portrait session with Gio so that they could send photos back to Gio's family in Italy. We didn't have the weather on our side, but we made the best of the day. I decided to use a black and white treatment on the photos as an experiment, and I think it nicely captures the mood of the day in a dramatic way.

In 2007, Ray and I started our wedding and portrait photography business. We've been incredibly busy, and I was a complete slacker when it came to blogging about our business. Therefore, for 2008, I resolve to blog more often. I decided to move back to using Movable Type so that I'd have more control over my blog.
Over the next few weeks, I'll catch up with a few weddings and portrait sessions from 2007.
Wishing you the best in 2008!
-Lilia

Ray and I have been super busy with weddings and portrait sessions the last few weeks, and I'm now just getting caught up.
Congrats to Katie and John who were married on September 28. Ray and I shot their wedding, and I'll share those photos later. A few weekends ago, Ray and I met Katie and John and their dog, Zach, at Baker Beach for a post wedding "Day After" portrait session. Katie was brave enough to get her wedding dress wet on the beach!

Last week Ray and I had a really fun engagement session with Haley and Craig. We're shooting their San Francisco wedding this Saturday, and we're honored to be a part of their special day. Haley and Craig are an incredibly friendly and fun couple, and you can really see the love between them in their photos.
We ended up at Baker Beach because of the gorgeous view of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you're not from SF, you might not know that Baker Beach is also a nude beach, and if you look closely in the slideshow, you might catch a glimpse of a naked guy parading around.
You can now view the engagement slideshow here.

Ray and I were really excited to have a chance to do an engagement session at the Sutro Baths ruins last week. Daniella and Ryan are getting married in October, and we're honored and excited to be a part of their special day. They're such down-to-earth and friendly people, and it's wonderful to see a couple so in love.
The engagement session took place at the Sutro Bath ruins, at the exact spot where Ryan proposed to Daniella. You can view more shots in the engagement session slideshow here.

A few weeks ago, I shared a few photos from Haley and Craig's engagement session. On September 15, Ray and I were honored to document their wedding at the Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco. Haley and Craig are incredibly warm and wonderful people. I was with Haley before the ceremony, and I almost started crying when I heard her practicing her vows--very sincere and heartfelt. Wow, they way they looked at each other during the ceremony, makes my heart swoon, seriously.
Since we were at a golf course, we decided to take the groomsmen out to the nearest hole for a few quick shots. Some jackass golfers decided to scream and yell at us because they thought we were in the way. How rude! Like you couldn't wait five minutes for a guy to get some pics taken on his wedding day? Well, we ignored them and got our shots anyway, and made them wait. ;)
Check out the wedding day slideshow for some photos from the epic dancing at the reception. These people know how to par-tay!

Last week Ray and I shot a bridal portrait session with Alexa. We started out at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park here in San Francisco, but that turned out to be an utter disaster because there were about a million tourists there, and it was much too crowded to really get great shots. We aborted mission and headed out to Sutro Heights Park, Mountain View Cemetery in Piedmont, and then finally Lake Temescal in Oakland.

Back in early July, I met up with Shahzia and Ahmer at the Palace of Fine Arts for a wedding portrait session. They've been married for a few years, but they wanted some professional portraits, and I was happy to oblige them. :) Of course those of us in SF have been hit by lots of fog and grey skies since July, so the weather wasn't on our side on the day of the shoot. However, I think Shahzia and Ahmer's personalities still shine through.

Congratulations to our very good friends, Nicole and Peter, who were married on a very rainy day this past weekend. The rain didn't dampen their spirits, and they tied the knot with style and poise. They looked like they walked right out of a forties film, so glamorous!
