Last Friday night Ray and I drove down to Belmont for our friend Chung Li's gallery opening. Chung is a fantastic wedding photographer and incredibly fun guy too! It was great to see other wedding photogs there like Alisha + Brook Todd (and their gorgeous little girl Giada), Ricky Wong, Augie Chang, Dawn Stoloff, and Cindy Chen. Nicole Ha created a gorgeous floral tablescape, while Jen from Jen's Cakes crafted an incredibly yummy two tier cake.
Of course my favorite part of the night was meeting other amazing people like Duncan Reyes, Amy Tam, and Stacie Tamaki of the Flirty Guide, and the newly engaged Zach and Mayumi.
I met Veronica and Sergio last year when they stopped by our office. I knew they were a super sweet couple -- very warm and friendly people, and that Ray and I would have an amazing time documenting their special day. It's great to work with a couple that is relaxed and enjoying their wedding day so much!
Veronica and Sergio had an epic San Francisco destination wedding which included their closest friends and family. They live down in Orange County, and wanted to travel here to San Francisco to make their wedding very special. The day began with a beautiful Catholic ceremony in both Spanish and English, at the gorgeous St. Boniface Church. Following the ceremony, Veronica and Sergio arranged for a surprise trolley ride for all of the wedding guests with stops at Golden Gate Park and Fort Point. The reception was an incredibly fun bay cruise, which was a first for Ray and I. We managed to find our sea legs and shoot the epic dancing that ended a wonderful day!

When I first met Remy and Neal, we instantly clicked. They have the best vibe and great energy -- so positive, hip, cool, and all around super nice people. You can't be any cooler than owning your own clothing company either!
This year the most popular and luckiest day to get married was 08.08.08, and Remy and Neal liked to refer to their wedding as The Real 08.08.08. They even had a huge wood sign with those words branded on it. Following the beautiful ceremony at the San Jose Basilica, I took Remy and Neal over to the San Jose Museum of Art for a few quick portraits.
Then we were off to the San Jose City Hall Rotunda for the amazing, American Gothic styled reception, complete with checkered red and white table clothes, gorgeous sunflower arrangements, and little seedling favors -- everything was completely fresh and different, just like Remy and Neal.

Ray and I had the honor of shooting Jess and Pontus' wedding back in July at the Conservatory of Flowers here in San Francisco. Luckily we weren't foiled by the July fog and we had a gorgeous blue sky that day.
Jess and Pontus chose to have an intimate photo session before their wedding in Golden Gate Park including the DeYoung Museum and a gorgeous fern grove that looked absolutely prehistoric and wondrous.
They had friends and family fly in from Sweden, England, and Hong Kong to watch them tie the knot. The interior of the Conservatory of Flowers is such a great place for a champagne reception. Where else can you sip champagne with gorgeous tropical plants surrounding you?
The dinner reception took place in the amazing Yank Sing restaurant. Jess changed into a traditional Chinese wedding dress for their "First Look" inside Yank Sing. I just love the look of expectation on Pontus' face when he saw her.

We introduced Joy and Jason to you earlier this year with their engagement session. In July, Joy and Jason were married at the gorgeous Casa Real at Ruby Hill. Deanna Roberts of D.R. Roberts Events Management did an outstanding job planning their wedding. The details were immaculate, and she made sure that the entire day went by smoothly. If you are looking for an amazing wedding planner, Deanna Roberts is the planner of your dreams!
Joy got ready with at the hotel with her girlfriends, her mom, and her little nieces who were the cutest girls. As you can see, they are stoked about this wedding!

I love this moment when Joy has breathed a sigh of relief after getting her wedding dress on! I remember that feeling when I finally got into my dress.

Ray and I have been super busy this wedding season! I'm finally catching up with my blogging so you'll start seeing more wedding posts soon.
Tanya and Matt were married at the Stanford Park Hotel in Menlo Park back in July. They're both academics and met during their university days--Tanya with her studies in Chemistry and Matt in Physics. I guess you could say they had great chemistry!
We wish Tanya and Matt the best in their new lives on the East Coast!
Rabbi Gershon Steinberg-Caudill did a beautiful ceremony for Tanya and Matt, and added symbolic rites that added a great deal of meaning to the ceremony. Carol from Design with Flowers created modern and elegant floral designs. Patricia from A Perfect Look did everyone's makeup and hair. Not only is Patricia incredibly talented, but she has the greatest attitude and she's so pleasant to be around.
Tanya and Matt's reception was so lively thanks to DJ Ron Grandia. He kept the dance floor moving and inspired everyone with his great music selections. This is the second wedding this year with Ron, and I can tell you that he's simply amazing.

This little girl was so cute! She basically ignored me or would turn away whenever I'd try to take her photo. Then I started playing peek-a-boo with her, and hid behind some greenery, and here she is trying to find me.

When we first met Michelle and Dennis, Ray and I had the best feeling about them. They're both so warm and down-to-earth -- our favorite type of people.
We hear lots of proposal stories, and I think their story might top everyone! Last year, Michelle and Dennis were visiting her family ranch in Montana. A small lake is adjacent to the ranch, and Dennis took Michelle swimming in the lake. He pointed to something at the bottom of the lake, swam down, and brought up a treasure chest with her engagement ring inside of it! How about that as a surprise proposal!
Michelle and Dennis were married at the gorgeous Piedmont Community Church, and their reception was held at Boundary Oak in Walnut Creek.

You could tell that Halley couldn't wait to be married to Jessamine. Halley had to be one of the most excited grooms we've ever seen. And who wouldn't want to be married to the gorgeous and incredibly smart Jessamine?
Jessamine and Halley were married a few weeks ago near the Dahlia Garden in Golden Gate Park. They both have incredibly friendly and warm families. It was a true joy to see both families come together to celebrate this new marriage. Following their wedding, Jess and Halley had a beautiful cocktail reception in the park, followed by a dinner in the private room at the always amazing Absinthe in Hayes Valley.
Jess' entire family stayed in a flat in the Haight--that's such a great idea to have your family staying together in one spot. I was able to photograph Jess' family helping her to get ready, and caught a few nice moments with her parents and her grandmother.

Ray and I took Jess and Halley to Stow Lake, the Chinese Pagoda, Huntington Falls (all within GG Park), and finally over to Fort Point for a relaxed and elegant portrait session.

Since June 16, 2008, same-sex couples now have the legal right to get married in the State of California. It's about time!
We wanted to let everyone know that Lilia Photography supports marriage equality for everyone. Over the last few weeks, we've received calls from couples traveling from out-of-state who are getting married here in San Francisco. It's wonderful to know that many of our clients have been together for years, and are now able to have the same rights as straight married folks.
Because many couples are traveling here to San Francisco, they don't have anyone to act as their witness. I'm more than happy to not only photograph your wedding, but act as a witness as well. :)
We found a few resources on same-sex weddings that might be helpful to you:
The whole idea of having an engagement session is so that Ray and I have a chance to get to know our clients better before their wedding. We also get to see how a couple interacts with each other. Sometimes they're super lovey dovey, other times they have more of a quiet and laid back display of affection.
A few weeks ago, we took Joy and Jason out to Golden Gate Park and the GG Bridge for their engagement session. We were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather and beautiful light which I absolutely love.
When we first met at our client consultation, Jason was a laid back guy. Both he and Joy are attorneys doing great work in the community. That day we were lucky to see the funny side of Jason. He kept whispering in Joy's ear, and I would have loved to hear what he was saying! You can really see the love between Joy and Jason and it's wonderful to be working with two people who are making a difference in the world.

Ray and I have been super busy with weddings and engagement sessions and we can't wait to share them all with you!
When I first met Julie and Lou, I knew that their wedding would be as fun and warm as they were. We couldn't stop laughing during their consultation. A few weeks ago, Julie and Lou were married in an intimate ceremony at Brix in Napa. Kimberly Thompson of A Beautiful Ceremony did a beautiful job officiating the ceremony as usual. If you're looking for a Napa Valley wedding officiant, Kimberly is your gal! Fun, relaxed, and casual were the themes for the day, and their party didn't disappoint!

Our 2008 wedding season is in full swing! A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of shooting an engagement session for Misono and Dan who are getting married in Virginia later this year. Dan is a film student, and Misono is a web designer and it's always fun to work with such talented and creative people.
Misono asked us to photograph them when the cherry blossom trees were blooming in Golden Gate Park, and we had a narrow window of time to do this since the bloom only lasts for about two weeks. We managed to get some fantastic shots in the Japanese Tea Garden despite the throngs of tourists. Baker Beach was gorgeous as usual!
Take a look at more photos from Misono and Dan's engagement session slideshow.
